America’s Lighthouses Discover the lighthouses that have guided mariners along America’s coasts, rivers and Great Lakes for generations. America’s Lighthouses is an interactive guide to 776 lighthouses throughout the United States. From famous landmarks such as Portland Head Light and Cape Hatteras to remote offshore lights and forgotten towers, the app puts an extraordinary collection of American maritime history in your pocket. EXPLORE THE LIGHTHOUSES Browse lighthouses across the country on an interactive map or select an individual state to explore its lights. Search by lighthouse name, switch between map and list views, and filter the collection by whether a lighthouse still exists, remains active, or has been visited. Each lighthouse is plotted at its location and accompanied by a photograph whenever one is available. Tap a lighthouse to see its details, location and history. DISCOVER THEIR STORIES Lighthouses are more than towers with lights. They are stories of shipwrecks, storms, engineering, isolation, lifesaving and the people who kept the lights burning. America’s Lighthouses includes historical information describing why each light was established, important events in its history, and what has become of it today. See whether the lighthouse still exists and whether its light remains active. Learn about towers that were rebuilt, relocated, automated, abandoned or preserved-and discover the remarkable variety of structures that have served as American aids to navigation. PLAN YOUR VISITS Found a lighthouse you want to see? View its exact location on the map and use Directions to help get there. Explore nearby lights and turn a weekend trip, vacation or coastal drive into a lighthouse adventure. KEEP YOUR OWN BEACON LOG America’s Lighthouses isn't just a reference-it can become your personal lighthouse journal. Record the lighthouses you’ve visited, save the date of each visit and add your own notes and memories. Your Beacon Log keeps a running count of your progress nationally or within an individual state. Visited 41 of Maine’s 69 lights? Twenty-eight of California’s 44? More than 500 across the country? The app keeps track for you. SEARCH, FILTER AND EXPLORE Want to find a particular lighthouse? Search for it by name. Want to see only lighthouses you haven't visited? Filter your Beacon Log. Want to find historic towers that still exist but are no longer active? Filter by Active and Exists status. Or simply open the map and start exploring. FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES LIGHTHOUSES Whether you visit them, photograph them, climb them, collect them, study their history, seek them out from the water, or simply enjoy discovering these remarkable landmarks, America’s Lighthouses gives you a new way to explore them. There are 776 lights waiting to be discovered. How many have you seen?
